Loved the original AC vibe, that color filter is great and the whole game is great all around, I did like Basim as a Main Character. I think he's great. The only thing I don't like is how clunky the combat and how slow the parkour feels, but the graphics are absolutely beautiful.

This is a great example of why you shouldn't always listen to your fans. There was apparently a vocal part of the fanbase that wanted to go back to the basics, back to good old 2007. Well what we got was one of the driest and mediocre playing AC games since probably 2007. This games takes every progression they've made and throws it out the window. What we are left with is a fairly rough playing game that retains little of what people really enjoyed. I'm surprised there wasn't more tailing missions. The story was very meh and I called the twist about 30 mins in. The best quality of the game is it's city building and the detail that went into recreating Baghdad. The gameplay is pretty rough, I ran into so many issues when climbing whether it was jumping off in the opposite direction for some reason or the game not letting me drop down at all. The combat is even worse, hinging entirely on parrying that is somehow worse than the games that came out over 10 years ago. Obviously the focus is on stealth in this entry and it works fine for the most part. The crowd stuff is bad however. I enjoyed the game more when I was doing collectible cleanup. Please don't ever do this again Ubisoft.

A game so basic, generic, and uninteresting it feels like it was meant to be nostalgia-bait DLC.

As always the artstyle, landscapes, history codex, buildings, and different areas all look incredible and well curated. Ubisoft's art team are easily one of the best in the business and I never have any complaints about their work in these areas. The NPCs and animations are still iffy but the mocap has improved so that's...good. Despite the clunky and frustrating controls, I liked walking the streets and scouting the rooftops of the cities. I didn't care that much for the middle section of the city being a pain to traverse, and the outskirts of the cities were empty and felt like they were there to pad the playtime. I don't understand why dropping down buildings has to take so long, and Basim getting stuck on stairs or tiny ledges is a problem this series should have figured out a decade ago.

Sadly the story and dialogue are still awful. For the last couple of games they always feel like they've been translated from a different language with a crap translator, with voice acting that feels like the vocal equivalent of morse code. The stilted and just overall boring conversations do nothing to uplift the game whatsoever. I just don't care about any of the characters, including Basim. His introduction SHOULD be impactful but it's so terribly told I was baffled when they show you the consequences and then just move on. The ending that has you just slowly walking towards lights had me staring at my ceiling while I held up on the stick, bored. Again.

The game wants to tell this origin story where the Assassin's are still in their mystical era but it's just not engaging. Where's the intrigue? In these lame dream sequences you have to watch about 20 times? Considering Basim's home was Baghdad you would think coming back would have a lot more emotion to it. A lot of old faces, or places you know that have changed, but there's like two people and that's it. Big whoop. I would also have expected some more insider knowledge other than "dat sword from home whoa" considering how much Roshan fetishly praises him for NOTHING. The relation between Basim and Roshan, especially at the end, made absolutely zero sense. "Oh you're the coolest Basim" isn't an interesting dynamic between teacher and student. Nehal was alright but she's barely in the story and more of a plot point so who cares I guess.

Quest design usually boils down to 'Walk into radius circle -> Find a billion locked doors for some reason -> Wander around for ages trying to figure out how to unlock them -> examine a bunch of weirdly hidden glowy objects -> listen to mind numbing dialogue -> Run away'. The major bad guys barely feel fleshed out and their missions are terrible. Yes, you sometimes have several options to assassinate the target, but a fair few force you on this linear path. The bazaar auction is especially terrible, making you slowly walk back and forth doing mundane tasks until eventually you are told to press the button to murder and...that's it. Did you have fun?

And Christ, all the collectible 'puzzles'. I got tired of this tedious shit in Valhalla and now we're back to 'locked' 'barred' where you need to circle around the place until you find the one crack, pushable object, or note that tells you what to do. Why is the key holder for a door about 50 lightyears away, hiding inside of a random house? These are not puzzles, they are padding and I refuse to believe anyone enjoys them.

Speaking of padding. Man those sidequests. They're not interesting, don't take you anywhere cool, don't MAKE you do anything cool, they're just garbage. Examine a bunch of graves for a priest, fight guards, that's it. Examine a bunch of documents, find 3 for a guy, that's it. Find a boy at the top of a tower, assassin jump off, he does it too, that's it. Did you have fun? These barely even fit the time period we're in, and certainly don't take advantage of it. How about using your skills to learn about the spice trade and broker deals to make allies? How about being a bodyguard for a wealthy merchant, keeping an eye out for pickpockets? Why are we never using the skills Basim SPECIFICALLY had to painstakingly learn throughout his life to the point all these kids adored him?

Your abilities and kit feel too limited. Your skills are uninteresting, some which should have been unlocked from the start. I never had a need for the tools outside of the knife, and on two occasions the smoke bomb. They never changed how I played enough to matter. The token system sucks, rather than rewarding your ability to recognise and choose your own path, it's more trying to force you into grinding. Especially frustrating are when you give a token to bribe someone, and then they go "Uh no actually, I want three of them" for no reason. Your eagle is still the worst mechanic.

I miss Unity and London man.

This game is relatively short, but definitely a gem in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

The story is great, though of course the end was already written in AC Valhalla. Basim's character is rather serious at times, but Ubisoft did a good job of making the game light-hearted. The graphics are great, the parkour is fun, and the strategy aspects are well-made.

The gameplay is nothing new, but that doesn't mean it isn't special! It combines the classic tools elements of the older AC games and the RPG combat from the newer ones. In my opinion, it's a great mix!

Overall, an 8.25/10, would recommend.

TL;DR - Mirage is a great combination of the older AC games and the newer ones. You'll enjoy this short but sweet entry in the AC franchise.

BRO THIS GAME WAS SO MID
It's like they went out of their way to make the story as boring as possible, although it had a decent start and premise. The "ending" was... something. And no modern day storyline, if that's your thing.

The combat is absolute ass, the parkour is pretty lackluster and feels way too slow and similar to Valhalla's (which was not very good lol).

The stealth is decent but feels way too clunky and limited. the main missions in this game want to look cool so hard and give you an illusion of freedom but ultimately they're pretty much scripted. All the targets are all so generic and forgettable. The rest of the missions are basically fetch quests.

I liked how they reimagined ninth century Baghdad and exploring the map was pretty pleasant, I'll give it that. The city landscape as well as the outskirts are pretty gorgeous.

Overall, not a good look and by far the most forgettable mainline game

I am glad that the game has gone back to a more assassin based game, rather than the RPG base that they started to expand off into. It was a fun story and the characters grew to mean something to me. However now that the other AC games are massive in size this one felt rather small and quaint but I suppose thats for the better as I do not believe a single assassin would roam an entire country to deal with an issue that is close to home, especially in the case of a fresh and young assassin as in this one.

As a long-time fan of Assassin’s Creed (if you can still call yourself one), I have to say — skip this game. It’s boring right from the start. “Returning to the roots” here just means bringing back all the dull, outdated mechanics from the older titles. On top of that, the story feels completely neglected, with nothing interesting happening until the very end. I’m giving it a 2/10, and that’s only because the ending briefly wakes you up with a glimpse of some decent ideas, and a few scenes are well-directed.

The story just doesn't have any oopmh, it felt like just going through the motions of being an AC game. I feel like they're trying too hard to focus on the precursors story, and not giving me enough reasons to care why the assassin I'm playing is doing his thing. It was better when the precursors were an afterthought and the actual story we're playing took center stage. I just wasn't involved or cared enough about any of the characters in here.
I did like the simplified approach to gear and stealthiness harkening back to the originals, and less RPGness of the more recent ones. That also helped in it being more short and concise.

Really excellent AC game. The best one for a while. I loved Valhalla but it went on for too long. The graphics are excellent in 4k, and the whole visual design of the game is great. There are moments where you can tell that this was originally intended as an expansion pass for Valhalla, but not because of the presentation, because some of the new gameplay features are very much 'DLC' gameplay features rather than what you would expect in a full game. I would have liked a but more on the skill tree and the armour and weapons (e.g. more skills and options to pick from, and visual differences with gear upgrade level), other than that I had a great time and would recommend this to anyone who likes the AC franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Review: The Creed Reborn

Rating: 9.0 out of 10.0

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is Ubisoft’s attempt to remember why we fell in love with this franchise in the first place, before it bloated into a Viking-infested open-world collect-a-thon. Mirage ditches the protein-powder protagonists and endless RPG trees, opting instead for a lean, parkour-heavy, stealth-centric experience set in the vibrant streets of 9th-century Baghdad. You play as Basim, a guy who starts as a street rat and climbs the ranks of the Assassin Brotherhood (because stabbing from rooftops never goes out of style). It’s tighter, faster, and more focused like a greatest hits album of early Assassin’s Creed, minus the existential crisis about gods and aliens.

The Hidden Blade is Sharp Again: Pros
+ Baghdad is Pure Assassin Catnip: Dense, dusty, and packed with life, this isn’t just a setting, it’s a character. The city’s layered design makes stealthy traversal feel fresh. Smaller than past maps, but richer and more focused. Less Ubisoft sprawl, more “oh, that was clever.”
+ Parkour With Teeth: No more holding “up” and letting physics do the rest. You actually need to think. Pick routes, grab ledges, and accept that falling hurts. A tactile, satisfying return to form.
+ Finally, a Story With Focus: The cinematic opening, the training arc, the mystery, all work. No Animus distractions, no sci-fi headaches. Just Basim’s journey, paced tightly and wrapped in a well-executed story arc. For once, Assassin’s Creed remembers to tell a tale.
+ Basim is a Vibe: He starts out cocky and flawed, but grows. He’s not Ezio-level charming, but the arc from street rat to shadowy assassin is believable, compelling, and dare I say, earned.
+ Mission Freedom Done Right: Go loud, go silent, go weird, missions let you flex your style. Bribe guards, throw distractions, or go full John Wick. It’s the Assassin’s sandbox we’ve wanted.
+ Investigative Assassin-ing: Piecing together clues, chasing down rumors, and deciding who to pursue adds depth. The illusion of choice is strong here and honestly, it works.
+ Perfect Length, Perfect Price: No 80-hour nonsense. This is a tight, curated 15-20 hour experience that knows when to stop. Ubisoft showing restraint? Wild.

Still Got Some Rust on the Blade: Cons
– The Controls Still Make You Rage Quit (Briefly): It wouldn’t be Assassin’s Creed without fumbling a button combo mid-stealth. Combat and traversal occasionally trip over their own ambition.
– Eagle Vision Is Still Wallhack Mode: Too useful to ignore, too immersion-breaking to enjoy. A stealth tool that feels more like a cheat code without cooldown.
– AI That Couldn’t Find Its Own Sword: One bush and a whistle, and guards line up like lemmings. Charming in a retro way, but still dumb as bricks. The whistle? Really? Still? It’s time we had smarter, more situational tools than “Hey, over here!” like it's Metal Gear Lite
– Shopkeepers: Cosmetic Blue Balls: You spend hours pickpocketing and running contracts, and for what? Vendors offer little, mostly filler. Just put the upgrades at HQ and move on.

Parkour Purgatory: Neutral Notes
+/- Classic AC Comfort: For some, this will feel like a triumphant return. For others wanting bold innovation, this isn’t it. But that’s not the mission.
+/- Visuals Are Great, Until They Aren’t
Stunning cityscapes and solid atmosphere, occasionally betrayed by dead-eyed NPCs and clipping that reminds you it’s still Ubisoft.

Verdict: This Is the Creed We Asked For
Assassin’s Creed Mirage doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, it just reminds us why we liked the damn thing to begin with. If every AC had this approach, I would have played every game by now.. not everyone wants a 50+ hour slog that overstays it's welcome. Mirage is smartly scoped, beautifully crafted, and finally puts the “assassin” back in Assassin’s Creed. The flaws are there, but they’re manageable, even nostalgic at times. A sharp, focused return to form that proves smaller can be smarter. More Mirage, less mythology, please.

While the game looks visually stunning, I feel it falls short in several areas—one of the main ones being the story. When you kill the cult leader in the final battle, it feels very anticlimactic, even after discovering Basim’s past at the end of the game, which helps redeem it a bit.

On the other hand, the gameplay brings back many elements from the original games, such as blending in with crowds, the wanted level system, and one of my favorite aspects: stealth. This is executed very well throughout the game, as the environments themselves allow you to approach situations that way.

Went into this game really fearing the worst after the slog of AC Valhalla, but in the end I found this to be a serviceable to decent Assassin's Creed game. The stealth is back in a big way and the melee combat is kinda terrible, so you bet you'll be doing mostly stealth. The story structure can be a bit disconnected and some of the missions can get very repetitive but each chapter is usually capped off with a really fun 'blackbox' style assassination mission. The gameplay generally was great and the setting of Baghdad I felt was well realized. this game does really fall down with its story though. The main story involving the templars was fairly dull and I found myself really struggling to connect with characters. The more mystical aspects of the game are pushed to the background until they re-emerge in a baffling and rushed conclusion that left me with more questions than answers (and not in the good way!). Overall, a great throwback to the Assassin's Creed of old, and a welcome refresher after several bloated RPG style games in a row. 7/10.

A good but not great game. The setting is awesome, and the design of the the city is very cool. However, the story is convoluted and forgettable. Gameplay also gets in the way of fun at times, and once you are discovered the melee combat is very clunky. This has been a common thread throughout the series, but at least in AC: Valhalla you had special moves to save you when spotted. I feel like this game is a vast improvement over earlier titles, but it still needs some polish to be a great game... at least it's only 15-20 hours if you just play the main story.

Decent game, parkour and combat felt clunky though.

Pros:
Return to old AC stealth formula.

Cons:
With a return to old formulas, it keeps the same issues. Fighting is still clunky, parkour is clunky, occasional open world bugs - getting stuck on walls, falling, opening doors while crouching, etc.

Assassin's Creed Mirage turned out to be one of the most disappointing games in recent years for me. Even though my expectations weren’t very high, knowing Ubisoft’s modus operandi, the promising setup of Valhalla, where Basim was sketched out as an interesting character, and the statements about returning to the series' roots in terms of gameplay, I was convinced I would at least encounter a product where the story would again be the centerpiece of the experience, sidelining the open-world component and all the secondary activities.

After about 30 hours of gameplay and exhausting everything the title had to offer, I was left with very few satisfactions. While the narrative premise and Basim's character start off strong, unfortunately, as the hours progress, it all becomes watered down—the character doesn’t truly grow and only experiences real development at the end. The antagonists are far too underdeveloped and rarely satisfying, the plot seems to never truly take off, and only in the final stages does it decide to go all-in, throwing everything at the player all at once.

On the gameplay side, the game is very solid. The choice to offer various alternatives for handling the missions to assassinate main targets is highly appreciated, as is the ability to hire factions. The side missions are enjoyable and varied overall, the map is reasonably sized and doesn’t feel too empty, allowing for pleasant exploration of its environments. The only flaw is the mechanic involving charged assassinations of multiple targets at once, but it’s a feature that can easily be ignored.

In conclusion, as with all previous entries, it turns out to be fun, with gameplay that is not original but effective, excellent visuals, and inspired settings. However, as has become the series' hallmark, the narrative component is a mess, always diluted. The low score, in fact, reflects more the disappointment of this last element, which I had placed much hope in, given the character reset in Valhalla and the possibility of crafting a genuinely 'different' protagonist. Yet everything feels far too underdeveloped, and in terms of the series’ overarching storyline, it even feels like a title that could be skipped.

Although this is the closest an AC game has come to a true AC1-inspired "return-to-form", dropping the series-added RPG-style elements, streamlining the plot, & limiting the area size wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Ultimately, a lot of the same: the same old free-running, a not-so-great story, & [for all intents & purposes] a destination retread doesn't do enough to save the series from its gradual decline.

This was a great game, felt better than Valhalla for sure. Enjoyed it compared to Origins which I still believe is the best in the series.

Really enjoyed it.. Finally an assassin's creed title, which does feel like an assassin's creed game. Valhalla was horrendous, this is a step up. Was a little bit shorter in my opinion, but the story was great. The ending left me confused as hell, but hey, at least I got some videos to watch about the story now.
I recommend this one.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a 2023 action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series and the successor to 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla's own. Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty, against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim's internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.

I've been interested in the Assassin's Creed games for a long time. Right from the start when I tried the first game back in 2008 in my cousin's apartment, with fond memories of pre-ordering Black Flag in 2017 at home in my mom and dad's basement, or when I myself sailed around the Greek seas in Odyssey last winter.
When I heard that Mirage was coming out and wanted to change the AC games back to their roots from the Ezio period, it gave me a kick in the ass.
Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla were already inspired by the RPG genre with crafting weapons, armor and the best gear. The possibilities for killing and completing the story were more towards triple A games - and finally it was supposed to be an AC game that would try to find its good ace.

Opening of Assassin's Creed Mirage opens with the story of Basim (who I already met in Valhalla) and expanding his story in the AC lore.
The backstories give a glimpse into what it was like in Baghdad in the 900s, an exciting chapter for both history, intrigue, conflicts and oppositions. For once, we have returned to traditional features for game mechanics and unfolding for "our beloved assassins". And not only that, the focus was on AC, and less focus on the Templars (or here in the game Order of The Ancients).
This actually made me choose to persevere and continue on with both the story and side activities in the game. Long enough that I felt equipped for all enemies and bosses.

The game provides a good mix of how the old AC games were, while also allowing room for gameplay on the newer games like Unity, Odyssey and Valhalla. There is a lot of tactics, strategy, looking for information and shortcuts for both intel and infiltrations. I like it in a way, but still I would say that a lot is copy paste. It gives you a way to play, while not giving you anything new that we've already seen before.
The features like using Enkidu to scout ahead are copied from Origins, shortcuts and the use of courtesans are taken from AC2, and the combat reminds me more of static attacks from Revelations. Here I feel in a way that Unity provided more challenges and charm than Mirage (to be honest).

I enjoyed the game so far and got to round it off with some extra parts of the game for a total of 24 hours.
Worth trying out and seeing how things happen in the AC world, and I liked that you didn't need to have a background story for the previous games. And in this game you don't need to relate to a person from the future. Maybe Ubisofts kinda ditch the whole sci-fi part?

I give the game a nice 8 for good time spent and interest from me who is an Assassin's Creed fan. But yes, I'm probably pretty fed up with the series itself, which meant that Valhalla was only played halfway.
